Il tipo precedente "giubileo" aveva attirato molte critiche perche il ritratto della Regina non piaceva, cosí nel 1891 furono convocati gli artisti e i membri associati della Royal Academy per scegliere un nuovo disegno per il lato dritto, e il 27 novembre 1892 fu scelto quello di Sir Thomas Brock, che disegnava il busto rivolto a sinistra della Regina Victoria coronata e velata; la legenda fu ampliata con la scritta IND IMP visto che la Regina era diventata anche Imperatrice dell'India; nel lato verso c'è ancora "San Giorgio che uccide il drago", ripreso con alcune modifiche dall'originale di Benedetto Pistrucci. Dopo l'apertura delle filiali della Royal Mint a Sydney e Melbourne, nel 1899 ne fu aperta una piu piccola a Perth.

l'alta tiratura (piu alta di tutte le altre) è dovuta al fatto che nel 1891 si decise che le monete sotto peso sarebbero state sostituite con monete nuove, contemporaneamente le monete battute prima del 1837 furono dichiarate fuori corso, e parte di questo oro fu riconiato in 10.846.741 di sovrane. |
